The evidence that we have highlighted in the Torah and the Former Prophets (Genesis–2 Kings) reveals that there were an expectation and justification for some form of royal rule in Israel, and that such was not an afterthought or even an accommodation to human sinfulness. This fixation with kingship and the Davidic dynasty will be affirmed in our final chapter (“David and Messiah”) as we look at the witness of the Latter Prophets (Isaiah–Malachi).
